My first week experience working in the company
What do I do?
promote events into different Wechat groups, translate documents for the company and important leaders from other companies and educational institutions,
write short form videos and assist our foreign workers here in the content creation process(many interesting short form videos we have created: kiss me in Chinese, hand gestures, one week-two week learning Chinese)
translations for different deans, professors, instructors, company CEOS. it really helped me with my simultaneous translations skills a lot. I did lots of research for different things and learned a lot of new English terms.
I find that there are lots of bonding and friendship among the coworkers, but everynoe is extremely hardworking. The CEO of the company literally speaking lives here. And when there is a major event, people work around the clock to make sure that it gets held successfully.
My preparation effort for the event:
translated lots of different things for the event as a part of my daily work, and the night right before the event, I did word by word translation for the CEO of the xiyuan think tank, Ruoyu Yao. I did simultaneous translations for him during the event.
What I learned from the speeches from the keynote speakers:
China is a rising economic and cultural powerhouse. It is steadily projecting its influence around the world through different means. China's rising status in the world has led to global Chinese fever. Many foreign nationals are trying to learn Chinese to seize the opportunities in China or China-related opportunities. Learning Chinese will vastly help one to start businesses and make money in different industries. Employees with greater Chinese skills are given higher pays inside their respective companies.
The belt and road initiative, introduced by Chinese president Xi Jinping, has brought numerous opportunities for international students in those countries. It is a global economic plan to link China with major developing countries. China will invest more heavily in those countries, and there are also many China-led infrastructure project for the countries in belt and road regions(high-speed railway in Indonesia, roads and railways in Africa, etc). Favorable policies have been enacted in favor of studying in China and entrepreneurship in China for students along those countries. Guys, if you are from one of those countries, come and apply for universities in China.
China is the number 2 economy in the world, and also a leader in many different industries(metaverse, AI, new vehicle energy). Favorable policies and financial backings have been enacted for career and entreprenuership in those industries. And since these are rather new yet rapidly developing industries, China is in urgent needs of talents for those industries. So come to study in China and seize those opportunities.
If you want to make money in China or China-related projects, it is fairly critical to learn Chinese language and understand Chinese culture. You will be dealing with Chinese coworkers, Chinese businesses, or maybe Chinese governmental organizations, so you must have the Chinese mindset in order to understand their functionalities and cooperate with them. And having studied in China, international students are the witness of Chinese culture and should work hard towards promoting cross-border cultural exchanges.
While China is working hard to attract international students here, China is trying to improve the quality of its overseas students. It is important to learn Chinese language, get good grades, participate in internships, maintain good relationships with your professors/instructors, and produce more research papers if you are planning to stay in China after graduation.
Setting up businesses in China is a rather complicated process. It requires lengthy paperwork, approval process, and government connections. You need the assistance of another agency(AOEChinese) to help you with the process.
Some accomplishments for the event:
6 different foreign nationals had the chance to speak to Mrs.Wang, the CEO of the company.
Students were given the opportunity to ask professional questions to deans and instructors during the roundtable discussion.
The international student population were a lot more diverse during this event. Other than students from Bangledash, there were friends from Mexico, Russia, Congo, Pakistan, Morrocco, India, etc.
The event was successfully hosted by different governmental and official organizations, giving additional endorsement to the company's events.
The event photos had very good social media interactions and data(lots of views, likes, and comments). There were many views for the livestreaming.
Mrs.Wang's remarks for the company on the fifth Ihatoo Festival: In the past 11 years, Ihatoo has grown tremendously and helped various overseas Chinese students with Chinese learning. Now Ihatoo has decided to expand its educational mission to non-overseas Chinese students, and that's why we created AOEChinese.
Jason Li is the director of AOEChinese. He stated that in the past few months, AOEChinese has grown tremendously on its social new channels. And the past three events had great branding effects. Many of the international students in Hangzhou knew about the company now, and had come to apply for our services. In the upcoming months, AOEChinese plans to grow its influence in other Chinese cities(startup contest in 8 different cities). Xi'an, Wuhan, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, etc.
There was amazing performance by our teammate Sarker. Sarker sang the Chinese song "we are different", and has received continuous applauses from the fellow coworkers. He had lots of courage to sing the song in another language.
There were also amazing dance and singing performances which featured traditional Chinese culture. Our coworkers were dressed up in Hanfu during the event. Poetic songs were sang. There were also guessing games for traditional Chinese culture and ancient Chinese history, and our foreign friends took part in those games. And there were also Chinese tongue twisters. The food there was also extremely amazing: steamed fish, fried beef, corn with acorn, salad, ducks, roast chickens, fruit plate, etc.
Overall, it was such an amazing event.
And I really cannot wait to visit other cities in China through the startup contest! Hope to see everyone soon!
